I' ve owned this watch for a few days and my initial impressions are favorable.
The Atlas is a heavy watch and sits high on the wrist. Despite its heft the watch is well balanced. It fits easily under my long sleeve oxford work shirts. The bracelet links are solid, not folded, and held in place with sturdy pins. I have no worries that the bracelet will come off accidentally. The bracelet does not tug at my wrist hairs. My wrist size is 6.75 inches and I had three links removed to get a good fit.
The finish of the watch exceeded my expectations. The case and bracelet are solid and show very fine tolerances. There are polished surfaces but they are not over-done and the watch has a sporty yet sophisticated appearance. I would certainly feel comfortable wearing the Atlas with a suit. The dial has good contrast and is easy to read in all lighting. At night, the luminous hands are very bright. The crystal is flush and shows low reflectivity. The bezel was difficult to turn at first but loosened after a few days.
The automatic movement has been accurate from the start, running fast by only 15-30 seconds per day compared to my quartz watch. I enjoy having both the day and date displayed. The compass feature might be a bit gimmicky but it could come in handy while kayaking, hiking or biking. I' m guessing there will be two or three times per year that I' m glad to have it. It' s much easier to use the compass with the watch off the wrist so be careful not to drop it, especially if you are in or near water.
Overall I am very happy with the Seiko Atlas. It' s a good-looking, accurate watch with useful features that can be worn with nearly any attire. It' s well worth the price. A good choice if you only want one watch. If your wrist size is less than 6.5 inches you may want to look for a smaller style. I ordered from Bodying and was pleased with the price and fast shipping. | | Was this review helpful to you?
